I hate the term "welcome sequence."
Not just because of the name.
Because of what most welcome sequences have become.
Someone joins your list and receives five or seven emails that basically say:
"Welcome! Here's who I am."
"Here's my story."
"Here's another thing about me."
"ANYWAY, WANT TO BUY SOMETHING?"
The entire sequence is often designed around getting the new subscriber to a CTA as quickly as possible.
Buy the product.
Book the call.
Join the programme.
But there's a pretty big problem:
Most of those people aren't ready to buy yet.
Some will be.
Fantastic.
But plenty of the people who eventually become your customers might buy three months from now.
Or six months.
Or a year.
Or two years.
If everything you do during their first week is designed around extracting an immediate sale, you're optimising for a tiny window of their relationship with you.
That's why I use a 7-day Immersion Series.
Rather than simply welcoming someone, I want to immerse them in your world.
I structure that around three things:
Empathy. Authority. Future pacing.
The goal is to build a genuine relationship, give them a reason to continue paying attention and create an opportunity for the people who are interested in buying to take the next step.
That's an important distinction.
I'm not against making sales from new subscribers.
I absolutely want those sales.
I just don't want to sacrifice someone who might buy six months from now because I was desperate to turn them into a customer by Thursday.
The goal is to optimise for short-term AND long-term sales.
That's what the Immersion Series is designed to do.
